One of the groom’s most important parts after saying “I do” will be his speech at the reception when he will stand up in front of all his friends and family to speak publicly about his new wife and give thanks. Yes, most grooms start their speech by thanking their guests for coming, but there are other ways to start the groom’s speech. Here, now, are some sample groom speeches.

You may start your speech with “Welcome to our wedding reception! I hope you’re all enjoying yourselves on this special day. It’s great to see so many friends and family, and I can honestly say that it would not have been the same without you – just an awful lot cheaper!” As you may have noticed, this sample speech injects a little humor just to keep the listeners interested and awake. However, remember to use humor sparingly. Never ever make jokes at the bride’s expense or include smutty jokes that won’t be appreciated by some of the guests.
Then, since the groom’s speech should be more along the lines of personally thanking all those people who were involved in the wedding preparations, and the people who have taken part in the wedding ceremony, you may use the following line: “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you all so much for coming to our wedding and for being so generous with all your gifts.” Or it could go something like this: “I would like to welcome every one of you here as you have all played some part, however small, in our lives and are valued because of that. Please know that your presence here is important to us.”
You may also take the opportunity to thank your parents by saying, “This seems to me to be an appropriate moment to thank my mother and my father for being such splendid parents to me.” You may also thank your mother-in-law and father-in-law, and your other relatives and friends who shared the special occasion with you.
It is also important that the groom dedicate a part of the speech to his wife. Talk about your feelings for your wife, addressing this part of the speech directly to her. Tell her how happy she has made you and how you are looking forward to building a future together. Remind her of the first time you met or the first time you realized that you were in love with her, and remind her again how beautiful she looks on your wedding day.
